In Oinam Assembly segment alone, the violent hailstorm wreaked havoc to 3309 houses of 14 villages. Of around 7000 houses of the Assembly segment, CI sheet-roofs of 3309 houses were extensively damaged by giant hailstones. Most of the affected people do not have shelter for sleeping and cooking now. Moreover, as roofs of most of the community halls of these villages also suffered major damages, there is no place for opening relief camps as well. Meanwhile the incessant rain and thunderstorm caused flash floods in various parts of Khumbong, Kha Jiri and Kamong areas under Kon-thoujam Assembly Constituency of Imphal West district. Several localities of Keishampat have also been flooded. One under-construction RCC wall along with construction materials have been washed away after the temporary ring band of a dam built across Sekmai river at Ithei Maru, Kakching collapsed owing to the torrential rain that continues to lash the State. Taking serious note of the extensive damages done by wind storms and hailstones in the last couple of days across the State, Health Minister DK Korungthang has stated that a proposal would be submitted to the Centre for a special package to rehabilitate all the affected people after a proper survey is done. DK Korungthang went to different places of Chandel district and made a field assessment of the damages done by wind storms and hailstones. Assuring immediate relief measures for people whose houses were completely destroyed, the Minister said that GI sheets would be provided to repair the damaged houses and added that the State Government has sanctioned Rs one crore for immediate relief measures.
